Roll percentile
How percentile checks work
Your skill is a number from 1 to 100. Roll the percentile dice and succeed if the result is equal to or below that number. A skill of 65 succeeds 65% of the time — the mapping is exact, which is why percentile systems feel so readable.
Hard and extreme successes
- Regular success — roll at or under your skill.
- Hard success — roll at or under half your skill.
- Extreme success — roll at or under one fifth of your skill.
- Fumble — a roll of 96–100 on a low skill, depending on the system.
Frequently asked questions
Are percentile dice the same as a d100?
Yes. Percentile dice are two d10s read as tens and units, producing the same 1–100 range as a d100.
What counts as a critical on percentile dice?
Most systems treat 01 as a critical success and 100 as a fumble, though details vary by game.
